2020 event summary:

Now in its 8th year, the Exe Hammer Paddleboard race returns on the 27th September. To make sure that we kept the Exe Hammer going in 2020, we have adjusted the route slightly this year to make sure that all participants have plenty of space throughout the event including the arrival, setup, briefing and start line. The event will start on the beach directly in front of our new watersports centre @ Sideshore Exmouth. The challengers will follow a loop course and our primary plan is to startpaddling along Exmouth Seafront, first out to sea then back in and past Dawlish Warren, up into the River Exe before looping back to finish back on Exmouth beach. There will be a shorter and a longer route to make sure the distance is appropriate for the type of board you are using and weather conditions. The exact length of each course will be adjusted slightly to account for the weather on the day and is somewhat arbitrary due to our local tidal conditions but will be approximately 8 miles for the faster categories (boards 12’6″ and above) and 4-5 miles for the slower categories (All boards less than 12’6″). It is TBC for the prone categorie course length.

This is a challenge for all paddlers and is one of the most popular events on the paddleboard calendar. Whether you are in it to race against the other partipants or just in it to challenge yourself and complete the course, you are welcome.

There are a number of different classes that you can enter depending on the type of board that you are paddling. Click the tickets button to see the classes and pick the ticket most appropriate to the board you will be using. All paddlers need to register on this website as there will be no entries on the day. The entries will close at 6pm on 26th September and, due to safety reasons, the entry is capped at 130 competitors.

The race is once again supported by Grenadier, with further support from Hangtime cafe that supply much needed food and drink at the end of the race.

Registration for the event will be outside at the new watersports centre @ sideshore from 08:00 where all riders will need to sign in and collect their race bibs. The start time will be approx 09:00-09:30 so be prompt for registration

With a morning registration there should be plenty of parking available at the sideshore location in Queen’s Drive Car Park and all along Exmouth Seafront. The start and finish are at the same place on Exmouth beach.

All riders are encouraged to follow the Exe Hammer facebook page where any news and updates will occur. https://www.facebook.com/TheExeHammer/
