If you are simply wondering whether your child is suitable for our Watersports tuition the answer is probably yes. We can teach children from age 6 upwards in at least one of our Watersports.
As one of the first centres's to get licensed for teaching young people activities, we take the safety of your children very seriously. We hold the AALA, RYA and BKSA affiliations and are proud to maintain the highest standard of safety procedures on and off the water.
Our staff will always be friendly and are great communicators always helping the kids to get the most out of their learning. Most of our staff have been with us for many years and our 'family' feel to much of the younger coaching is welcomed. Many of our instructors once learnt to do the sports with us and are now either assisting or fully signed up instructors.
Edge Watersports is one of a handful of centres that is able to offer BKSA Instructor training Courses. Eric is a BKSA Trainer and along with Steph (an RYA Dinghy coach) offers a wealth of knowledge and experience. We train many instructors to teach Kitesurfing all over the UK and abroad and have been involved with setting up the new BKSA Scheme.
Below is an outline of some of our most popular courses designed for under 16's
Dedicated to get kids active and involved and suitable for all ages from 6 years upwards. The aim is to get the children competent and confident in kite flying and knowledgeable on all aspects of kite skills. Once that is achieved we aim to give all the children a go at using the buggy and land board and they are often amazed at what they can achieve. We aim to give them all the knowledge to own and use their own kite safely and join the ever growing numbers practising kite sports in Exmouth and around the country. This course represents great value for money and runs at weekends year round and during all the school holidays in the week.
Suitable for children aged 12 and upwards those have either some kite flying experience or have completed a 2 day kitesports course. We have a range of dedicated North Buster kitesurfing kites which make learning to kitesurf as a child far easier and much safer than ever before. In no time we can get children body dragging and getting up on a board. The fast progression of most children puts our adult learners to shame and really excites us as Instructors.
By the end of the course we aim to have children getting their feet into the board and hopefully making their first waterstarts and short runs. It is important for parents to know that completion of this course will not mean that their children are safe to go off kitesurfing on their own but should have an adult accompanying them to ensure they make sensible decisions to keep them safe.
The Course will be starting on Sunday 27th of May and running 3rd, 10th, 17th June, 1st July and 8th July
Aimed at under 16s with no previous kite flying experience during the 6 two hour sessions we will work through the basics of kite flying and advance onto the buggy or on to a mountain board powered by the kite. All of the six-week beginner sessions will be land based. The course is a lot of fun learning with other kids all in a safe environment created by our expert instructors. By the end of the six weeks the children will be very confident flying kites and will have the control and the knowledge in order to safely setup and fly kites on there own in a variety of conditions.
If your child is already confident with their kite flying then the intermediate course is the one to choose. With a mixture of lesson on the water and on the land (depending on the conditions), we aim to get your child to a level where they have the ability and knowledge in order to go out onto the water on their own. Running through advanced water kite handling and body dragging we will lead your child up to the board and hopefully up and riding by the end of the 6 week. All equipment is provided apart from wetsuit boots that can be purchased from £15.
