LOCAL KITESURFER RESCUES SWIMMERS

LOCAL KITESURFER RESCUES 2 YOUNG NON-SWIMMERS

OFF EXMOUTH SEA FRONT

On Easter Saturday at about 4.30pm a young boy aged about 10 and a girl of 12 or so were out of their depth and very frightened having been pushed up river out of the swimming area by the strong incoming tide.

At first the anonymous kitesurfer thought they were just shouting at each other but then realised they were screaming for help, out of their depth, and could not swim.

He dropped his board on the beach and let all the power out of the kite and made his way upwind to the terrified children allowing for the strong tide. The youngsters were instructed to hold onto his shoulders and he used the power of the wind in the kite to gently drag all three of them back to shore.

They were not far away from the shore and the tide and wind would eventually have brought the children back in but a very nasty experience was avoided thanks to the quick response of the kitesurfer.
