HAPPY 2012

Between Xmas & New year we have been travelling east of Cape Town along the ‘garden Route’ –finding superb kite spots & each night camping in another new & exciting place. We have found more river mouth’s & sick flat water resembling a more clean bottom chanel for team Bridge to destroy! .
Christamas eve was an especially cool experience- we went shopping at 7pm to buy food (yes another Brai) & some chocolate for the boys & it was all so chilled- Christamas gets cancelled here. Having said that we did’nt turn down the offer of Christamas Dinner at Lyndsey’s-(mum of Oscar) who also happen to be renting a rather large pad at Cape St. Francais.
‘That is just wrong’ was our first words on Christmas day when we woke up to The ‘Brai’- we are talking 6am!!!! Early starts while camping is the norm & ‘Guy’s legendary Bacon & eggs cooked in the back of the van would not be the same without first hitting the ocean for a swim.
Huge amounts of rainfall, thunder, lightening during Christmas day was followed by a cross-off wind & a small wave on boxing day. For me the highlight was being surrounded by a pod of dolphins which circled me & played also in the waves – with a load more style & precision. When not kitesurfing, Tom has been proving the best use of the X-surf as his surf board & has been popping up & making turns on all sorts of small surf.
Travelling along the N2 we have National parks, wildlife, bungee jumping experiences however we always wanted to spend a couple of days at the ‘Addo National Park’ which is about an hour from Port Elizabeth & a truly unique experience . We drive along dirt roads through huge amounts of jungle, forest & biotherms while experiencing the animals in their habitats. Having seen elephants, dung beetles, buffalo, kuku, waterhogs, oversize tortoise, zebra, baboon, eagles & more we really needed the lion. Suddenly as we tracked south these huge animals lay in a bush, the male just stunning & relaxed as we witnessed his stetching from the comfort of our vehicle just meters away. This whole trip was awesome & for sure will always be remembered long after the kite spots get forgotton.
After 7 nights under the stars we track back west towards ‘Witsands’ on the breede river where I wake this morning to the sound of birds/ snakes in the forest next to the back drop of sand dune surrounded by crystal clear warm indian ocean. So, its time to look back at 2011 but its much better to look forward to 2012 & living for today. So on that note- we wish you all a very Healthy & successful 2012.
