A few days in the Outer Hebrides

When we were invited to attend a filming project on the Isle Of Lewis in January we immediately said ‘Yes’. A brief email to our sponsor, ION to ensure we had delivered the ION FUZE DRYSUIT and along with some ski wear, small kites and ski googlies we took a couple of flights North to Inverness.

From there we collected the vehicle of choice- the VOLVO XC60 which would be used in the shooting for all off road and kitesurf related action. A small session at Ullapool where we collected the 4 hour ferry to Stornaway in an incredible end of day sunshine and feeling that nobody else had ever been kitesurfing on this loch. Eric, Olly and I were on the team along with a handful of film crew, pro driver and director. The day we were scheduled to shoot kitesurfing was around 35knots , below zero degree’s and rain! However, we had all the gear for these conditions so went out at ‘Reef’ which was a small drive from where we were staying at ‘The Auberge’. Much time was spent ensuring the vehicle was in the shots from different angles , cliff tops, rugged tracks and all the special scenery that a place like these Islands brings. The colors and light changed through the course of the day and what was noticeable was this huge sense of community spirit in the area. The beauty, unspoiled beaches, turquoise waters and shear amount of wind & waves:  This is a venue we shall be back in the summer to really explore. The day we traveled home there had been a good dump of snow overnight and we wished we had packed the snow kites!
